Practice Guidelines for Prescribing Opioids

Why we won’t over-prescribe pain medication.

Sun Pain Management is an integrative, patient-centered approach to care. We provide personalized care plans with a goal of promoting well-being and improving patients’ quality of life. Our patients’ well-being and quality of life is our priority and that’s why it’s so important for us to comment in more detail about Rx management and preventing the over-prescription of opioids.

Our practice – physicians and nurse practitioners treat patients with the patient’s medical history and comfort in mind. Improving the way opioids are prescribed through clinical practice guidelines is our goal in ensuring patients have access to safer, more effective pain treatment while reducing the number of people who potentially misuse or overdose from these drugs. Reducing exposure to prescription opioids, for situations where the risks of opioids outweigh the benefits, is a crucial part of prevention.

The CDC published the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain to provide recommendations for prescribing opioid pain medication for patients 18 and older in primary care settings. Recommendations focus on the use of opioids in treating chronic pain (pain lasting longer than 3 months or past the time of normal tissue healing) outside of active cancer treatment, palliative care, and end-of-life care.

Our team is committed to providing care that is safe, warm environment. We are committed to 100% compliance with the CDC Guidelines which were ultimately created to protect patients and providers alike.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with these and above all, please know that we will do all we can to treat and alleviate chronic pain through different modalities and that we will never, ever, over-prescribe pain medication. We comply with these guidelines for the benefit of all.

If you have any questions or feel dissatisfied with not being prescribed a medication you are requesting, we encourage you to have a deeper conversation with your provider about it rather than posting a negative review. We are your healthcare partner; your well-being is our first priority.
